ADA FOAH: PREZ. MAHAMA ON FISH FARMING

The shrimp project is the first of its kind in Ghana and on the Atlantic coast of Africa. It is a Ghanaian and Vietnamese joint venture. It consists of several ponds and a shrimp hatchery which has the capacity to produce 15 million shrimp larvae per month when fully operational. More than 200,000 tiger shrimps and over 50,000 local white shrimps have been nurtured into exportable market size since last August.
The Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Volta Regions are also to benefit from this scheme. President Mahama said the project will draw support from the Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund. Shrimps are popular sea food in South East Asia particularly Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. According to the Ambassador of Vietnam to Ghana Mr. Ho Ngoc Hoang, weather conditions in Ghana are favourable for shrimp farming. From Ada Foah, President John Mahama headed for Weija to inspect a crisis which is believed to be caused by a spillage from the Weija dam.
