WORLD CUP: ASSESSMENT OF GHANA

Facing Germany and Portugal in a soccer world cup can be daunting. The survival of any African team meeting Germany could be slim if the team hasn't got quick recovery at the back. If defenders are flat-footed and cannot run to clear their ranks, then the match will be give-away to the Germans.
The three-time world champions pass the ball across the danger zone of opposing teams with lightening speed. Defenders who cannot run will be at deep blue sea. There are two-ways to get around such an opposition. Attackers and Midfielders should fall back quickly to support the defense and there should always be two extra-men waiting at the back, anytime the Germans are attacked first. Ghana can match Portugal boot for boot and make nonsense of a side that will parade the world's best player. Ghana and Portugal share similar skill and flair and the difference might probably lie in goalkeeper anticipation and defensive error. Hard tackling defender Jerry Akaminko who should have marked Christiano Ronaldo is not part of the Ghana team due to injury. In the face of a Ronaldo danger, the best antidote will be one-time clearances at the back, to thwart Portugal construction.
