BOLGATANGA: NHIA SET TO ROLL OUT UNIFORM PRESCRIPTION FORMS

The revised prescription form would be introduced by the Ministry of Health this year. A report on the form which has been designed and piloted in the Greater Accra Region is said to be feasible. Its introduction will among other interventions, promote effective utilization of drugs. The stakeholders meeting therefore provided the platform for knowledge sharing and an opportunity to brief claim and scheme managers on the relevance of the form. It was one of the periodic review meetings initiated by the Chief, to Executive Director of the Authority, Sylvester Mensah to update officers on current issues on the operation of the scheme.
In a presentation, Deputy National Director of Planning, Monitoring and International Relations at the NHIA, Mr. Ando-Adjei, said though the NHIA has to a large extent addressed the health needs of the poor and vulnerable, the scheme is still faced with operational challenges. Mr. Ando-Adjei highlighted the importance of the uniformed prescription forms, stressing that its distinct and unique features is to ensure that medicines are safe and are of good quality. Mr. Ando-He urged operation officers of the NHIA, particularly Public Relation Officers to be abreast with key issues affecting the scheme and update the public on its operation. In an interview with GBC24 Mr. Andoh said the meeting will have a good impact on the Scheme. Answering questions on the delay of the proposed time premium, Mr. Ando-Adjei explained that the policy has not been thrown away as perceived by a section of the public. It is currently being put on hold based on the advice of experts groups. The decision was taken by experts in health finances at a National Stakeholders meeting in December 2012.
