TEMA: FIRE DESTROY MEDICAL STORES

Smoke is still billowing from the Central medical stores twenty-four hours after fire swept through the drugs storage and distribution facility. No one was injured in the fire. The Chairman of the parliamentary select committee on health Joseph Yileh Chireh is promising investigations into the cause of the fire.
The fire that swept through the Central Medical Stores on Tuesday destroyed drugs and medical equipment worth millions of Ghana Cedis. The warehouse which is the largest medical storage and distribution centre in the country has been completely razed by the inferno. More than 24 hours after the fire outbreak, firemen had only been able to control and confine the fire as pockets of fire and smoke could still be seen coming from the medical stores. As at eleven am on Wednesday, the Ghana National Fire Service, was still having some challenges with putting out the fire completely.
The Chairman of the parliamentary select committee on health Mr. Joseph Yileh Chireh promised that investigations will be conducted into the outbreak to determine if it was an arson attack.
The Interior Minister Mr. Mark Woyongo said the administration will consider equipping the fire service with helicopters to improve efficiency in fire fighting. Meanwhile the ministry of health has allayed the fears of the public saying there will be no drug shortage, following the fire.
