Anas Aremeyaw Anas is the 7th of Ghana's Famous “Big Six”

What many people say to me regarding Anas Aremeyaw Anas is that he is a mysterious man who manipulates some spiritual laws or uses voodoo power to charm his subjects, and more crucially, to make himself appear unfathomable. But are these “mystery man”, “man framer”, “charmer”, “black power” mantras all true of Anas, a young man whose courage has committed him to take risks of such magnitude? I doubt.
Just like the famous “Big Six” significant of them being Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Anas’ patriotism always fascinates me. Indeed, however mysterious he may seem to others, I strongly disagree on the charge that his skill towards hunting down bad guys in society is ill-nurtured. Those who make this negative assertion are mouthing big words out of wonder or perhaps fear. Now the question I ask is this. What is Patriotism? Patriotism is all about justice. That is, doing things right, defending the cause of the abused, giving a voice to the voiceless and above all, dignifying truth over falsehood. A patriot will expose people involved in injustice, bribery and corruption. Although these expose’ are for society’s good, sadly patriots are threatened with assassination, abduction and all manner of malice the human mind can invent. But the help of Anas comes from the Lord. We are commanded in the Bible to be like the Father, who is just and incorruptible. He protects and directs whoever (in this case Anas) strives to become so. Once invited to speak at the TEDx Programme in the USA, Anas made a remarkable question statement. He said,
What is the use of journalism if it doesn’t benefit society
. So there it is- the motivation behind Anas’ job. After all, Ghanaian journalists know of this for they have been taught back in College that the purpose of Communication or Journalism is to change society for the better. But changing society is no easy task, for it demands serious investigation and commitment. Unsurprisingly, a journalist who can’t trek on like Anas does fall away. So as I ponder on his desire to effect change through hard evidence of the goings-on in society, I immediately knew that he had qualified to be the 7th of the Big Six, who also in their time, faced tremendous opposition just as Anas is facing today.
From now onwards I know that the ascendancy of corruption perpetrated by bad guys especially our Representatives will stop. If it doesn’t, then the leaders we have are no longer patriotic nor do they concern most about the development of the country. If they are really change agents, they will long ago have done things right without fear or favour and we won’t still be in poverty. In sum, my dear Anas Aremeyaw Anas rightly adds to the Big Six, to become what I now christen “Ghana’s Seven Men of Courage”. He has demonstrated true passion for his calling and as such deserves applause and honour for a very good job done.
